This Annual Report, which covers the period from July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2018,
has been prepared by the Executive Directors of both the International Bank
for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development
Association (IDA)〞collectively known as the World Bank〞in accordance with
the respective bylaws of the two institutions. Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of
the World Bank Group and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, has
submitted this report, together with the accompanying administrative budgets
and audited fnancial statements, to the Board of Governors.
Annual Reports for the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral
Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for
Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) are published separately.

22Madagascar: Since 2015, over 113,000
children in about 600 schools in the
south have received meals at school,
helping them to stay in school in spite
of drought conditions in the area.
23Moldova: Between 2003 and 2013, over
1,000 business start-ups were launched
and $30 million was disbursed to rural
entrepreneurs and start-ups, helping
create over 5,600 new jobs.
24Nicaragua: Between 2012 and 2017,
nearly 18,000 families benefted from
a social protection project in 26
municipalities, and public primary
school retention rates increased from
85 percent to 90 percent.
25Pakistan: Between 2017 and 2018,
school enrollment in Punjab increased
from 11.3 million to 12.3 million
students, and roughly 100,000 teachers
were hired through a competitive,
meritocratic hiring system.
13El Salvador: From 2010 to 2016, more
than 40,000 benefciaries〞of whom 70
percent were women and 30 percent
were youth〞in poor urban areas received
14Ethiopia: Between 2006 and 2016, the
primary net enrollment rate increased
from just over 79 percent to more than
99 per cent, while the ratio of girls to boys
in grades 1每8 increased from 0.84 to 0.92.
15The Gambia: Between 2010 and 2015, the
days required to receive a business license
was reduced from 27 to 3, paving the
way for more than 10,000 new enterprise
16Ghana: Since 2010, more than 1 million
benefciaries〞of whom 55 percent were
women〞benefted from short-term
employment opportunities, cash transfer
grants, and strengthened safety net
17Honduras: Between 2011 and 2017, about
90,000 urban and rural households were
registered in a parcel-based system, and
